Mount Everest is located in the highest mountain range in the world – the Himalayas, on the border between Nepal and Tibet.
The second highest peaks in the world is K2 – this mountain is also located in the Himalayas. It is 8,611 m above sea level. It is lower than Everest by a whole 237 meters.
Mount Everest was first conquered in 1953. The expedition led by John Hunt conquered the mountain from Nepal.
