What are cryptocurrencies?

Cryptocurrencies are, to put it simply, virtual currencies that do not have their physical form. Currently, they are primarily a form of investment thanks to spectacular increases in value – the oldest bitcoin cryptocurrency, established in 2009, was worth less than $ 1,700 at the beginning of 2016, and in March 2021 it was already over $ 56,000. In addition to bitcoin, popular cryptocurrencies include Ethereum, Litecoin or Dash. Their value in terms of “real” money is calculated similarly to the values of physical currencies or, for example, stocks.
